Setting up a family office requires the main applicant registers two companies in Singapore. One is a fund company and the other is a family office. The office provides fund management services to fund entities (corporate companies incorporated in Singapore), and it will be applicable to the tax exemption scheme (13X/13R) of Singapore funds.

The fund manager (the main applicant) manages the family’s own assets through the family office and obtains an employment pass (EP). After holding the EP for 6 months, the applicant will be eligible for Singapore permanent resident status (PR) application. Spouse of the main applicant and their unmarried children under the age of 21 can apply for a dependent pass (DP); parents can apply for a long-term visit pass (LTVP).

Tax Exemption Policies

The Securities and Futures Act of the Monetary Authority of Singapore does not define the term “single-family office”, nor does it issue licenses or supervise single-family offices. In order to encourage the development of family offices, the Singapore government has granted exemptions for license applications and related tax incentives for family offices.
